The Role of a Business Analyst

Your role as a Business Analyst is to understand and analyse both user and business needs. You will ensure the outcomes are aligned with service vision and business strategy by contributing to the link between current and future business models, delivering to the business architecture. The right person for this role will have a proven track record of business analysis, including in agile environments, with the ability to translate strategy and end-to-end business design into detailed outcomes relating to change initiatives.

 Typical Role Responsibilities:

  • Requirements Gathering – Coordinate requirement activities, their validation and sign-off ensuring the needs of key stakeholders are articulated

  • Leadership – Coordinate and lead on the evaluation of requirements against the present state and target state, identifying opportunities to develop successful business requirements

  • Risk Management – Lead on ensuring potential consequences of a change are correctly identified, ensuring stakeholders have been identified and are part of the overall process

  • Benefits Analysis – Coordinate and lead on ensuring benefits analysis is developed and disseminated to project sponsors, senior management, and appropriate stakeholders

  • Stakeholder Management – Identify and manage stakeholder relationships and the need for senior level support. Manage internal and external relationships as appropriate, liaising with business owners, business architects, business users change and technical teams to identify needs

  • System Analysis – To ensure business needs are translated into solutions against identified timelines, working with technical leads

    Additional Specification & Criteria required:

    A working knowledge of;

  • Planning, Risk and Issue Management, Quality Management, Change Control, Benefits Management, Knowledge Management, Visible Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Inspiring Others, Resilience, Innovation and Culture Change 

    A practitioner level of experience of;

  • Solutions development, Business Change and Implementation, Stakeholder engagement, Business Case Development, Credible Action, Working with Ambiguity, Collaboration and Influencing Others

    An expert level of experience of;

  • Requirements Management and Business Analysis

    Essential Criteria and Qualifications:


  • Strong non-functional requirements experience

  • Relationship building with clients/key stakeholders

  • Experience/Qualification in Service Now or similar Service Management System tool

  • Qualification in ITIL

  • Operational Service experience and working with health monitoring tooling (e.g. SolarWinds, SCOM)

  • Previous experience of working within business areas and understanding the infrastructure and services, monitoring the requirements for specific services

  • Monitoring requirements, running workshops

  • Previous experience of coordinating project delivery by participating in design reviews and walkthroughs to communicate systems designs, validating proposed solutions

  • Strong understanding of technical designs and specifications


  • Broad IT domain experience in three of more of the following IT areas: Applications Development, Enterprise Architecture, Project Management, Vendor Management, Quality Assurance, Infrastructure and Maintenance Support

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in both verbal and written communication

  • Demonstrated analytical skills

  • Basic understanding of information technology and business concepts

  • Familiarity with general business functions

  • Problem solving and strong communication skills

  • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements and technical infrastructure (tin and wire)

    Expected Qualifications:

  • Experience of delivering change to an IT Service Organisation

  • Bachelor’s degree (in any field)

  • Understanding the role of service-based environments

  • Scrum Master
